Some 52% of Ukrainians encounter violation of language law - Rakuten Viber survey

More than half of Ukrainians (52%) reported that they had encountered a violation of the language law in the service sector or in public space over the past year, according to a survey conducted by Rakuten Viber on Friday for Ukrainian Literature and Language Day.

At the same time, 18% of respondents have not encountered violations of the law, and another 18% do not pay attention to this. Some 12% do not know what the essence of the language law is.

In response to the violation of the language law, 35% of respondents ask to switch to the Ukrainian language, the same number do not react, because they do not care, 21% said that they will remain silent, but will no longer use advantages of this service, 4% complain to the administrator or manager, 3% write a complaint about the service or employee online. Some 16% react differently.

More than 7,000 respondents took part in the anonymous online survey. In Ukraine, Rakuten Viber is installed on 98% of smartphones. Rakuten Viber is part of the Japanese Rakuten Group, Inc., a company in the field of finance and techniques, e-commerce, digital content and communications services.
