UN WFP imports 164,000 tonnes of Ukrainian food to countries in need since start of Grain from Ukraine program

The United Nations World Food Program (WFP), as part of the Grain from Ukraine initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has already transported 164,000 tonnes of food purchased in the country to countries facing a food crisis, said program director in Ukraine Richard Ragan in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

"We facilitate the export of Ukrainian grain and other food products from Black Sea ports to support countries facing food crises, as well as Ukraine's agricultural sector. Currently, under the Grain from Ukraine initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, WFP has transported 164,000 tonnes of food for its key operations in countries such as Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Sudan, Mauritania, Djibouti, the DRC and Mozambique," he said.

According to the WFP Director, the program is expected to allocate another $47 million to purchase 35,000 tonnes of food for its operations in Mozambique, Malawi, Palestine, Mauritania, Djibouti and the DRC.
