Crimean resident, fighting in Kharkiv region on Russian side, faces life sentence for treason – prosecutor's office

The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office has approved and sent to court an indictment against a 48-year-old resident of Alushta, suspected of high treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

"The Crimean will be tried in Kharkiv district court of Kharkiv region. For high treason, he faces imprisonment for a term of fifteen years or life imprisonment with confiscation of property," the press service of Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reports.

According to the investigation, in November 2023, the Crimean decided to participate in hostilities on the side of the Russian Federation. He left for Moscow, where on December 1 of the same year he signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense for military service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for a period of one year. The man was assigned to the military unit 06414 of the 7th Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment (Kaliningrad). Later, the defendant underwent fire and tactical training on the territory of the temporarily occupied Luhansk region.

In June 2024, he was relocated during the offensive actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of Lypetsk community of Kharkiv region. There, the man was captured by Ukrainian servicemen.
