Defense Ministry codifies Ukrainian-made turret module for M113 armored personnel carrier
The tower module for American-made M113 armored personnel carriers has been codified and approved for operation by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
According to the press service of the ministry, work is also continuing at Ukrainian enterprises to increase the level of firepower and protect armored personnel carriers of various modifications from attacks by enemy UAVs.
“A new armored turret of domestic design can be installed on an armored personnel carrier of all modifications of the M113. The design protects the turret shooter from balls of small arms and heavy machine guns, and also protects it from fragments of ammunition,” the message says.
The Ministry of Defense recalled that a 12.7 mm M2 (Browning) machine gun is installed on the turret of the M113 tracked armored personnel carrier to fire at ground and air targets. Optionally, it is also possible to install the Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher or the M47 Dragon and BGM-71 TOW anti-tank complex on the M113.
Currently, about 20 samples of foreign-made armored personnel carriers have been approved for operation in the units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. In particular, LAV-TV, FV432, FV105, M1126 Stryker, FV103 Spartan, M113A3, YPR-765A1, VAB, XA-185 PASI and others. Among the advantages of foreign armored personnel carriers, which are noted by the military, are reliability, ease of operation and maintainability.
