Russian aggression affects 1,100 cultural heritage sites in Ukraine
Ukraine's 1,096 cultural heritage sites were affected by Russia's full-scale armed aggression, the press service of the Culture and Information Policy Ministry of Ukraine has said.
"The Culture and Information Policy Ministry continues to record damage to cultural heritage sites in Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression. According to the information provided by the regional and Kyiv City military administrations, the total number of damaged monuments of cultural heritage in the regions increased by eleven units and amounts to 1,096 sites. Of them, 121 are of national importance, 892 – local, 83 – recently discovered," it said.
In addition, there were repeated strikes against already damaged monuments of cultural heritage in Dnipropetrovsk region.
Cultural heritage sites are damaged or destroyed in 18 regions of the country: Kharkiv region – 314; Kherson region – 150; Donetsk region – 125; Odesa region – 116; Chernihiv region – 69; Kyiv region and Kyiv – 69; Zaporizhia region – 49; Mykolaiv region – 45; Dnipropetrovsk region – 39; Lviv region – 36; Luhansk region – 31; Sumy region – 27; Khmelnytsky region – 10; Poltava region – 6; Vinnytsia region – 4; Zhytomyr region – 4; Kirovohrad region – 1; Cherkasy region – 1.
"As of the end of July 2024, almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of the territories of Zaporizhia, Donetsk and Kherson regions are still under temporary occupation, which makes it impossible to calculate the exact number of damaged cultural heritage sites affected during hostilities and occupation," the ministry said.
