Ukrainian defenders shoot down X-59 missile, all 89 attack UAVs on Wed night – Air Force commander
On the night of July 31, the Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down 89 Shahed-131/136 UAVs out of 89 used by the Russian occupiers to strike the territory of Ukraine, Commander of the AFU Air Forces Mykola Oleschuk said.
"On the night of July 31, 2024, the enemy attacked with an X-59 guided air missile from the airspace of the occupied Kherson region and 89 Shahed-type attack UAVs from the districts of Yeysk, Sescha, Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk. The main direction of the strike was Kyiv region," Oleschuk said on Facebook.
He stressed that this was one of the most massive attacks by the Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs. The enemy used the same number of shaheds on New Year's Eve on January 1, 2024.
"As then, today the Ukrainian air defense has withstood and repelled a massive attack by enemy drones. Of the 89 attack UAVs Shahed-131/136 detected by radar units of the Air Force, all 89 were shot down!" said the commander of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Mobile fire groups of all the defense forces of Ukraine, tactical aviation of the Air Forces and army aviation of the Ground Forces, anti-aircraft missile units and radio warfare of the Air Forces were involved in repelling the air attack.
Also, the Defense Forces shot down a guided aviation missile X-59, with which the enemy attacked Mykolaiv region.
