Poland expects to reach mutually beneficial agreement with Ukraine – negotiations between agricultural ministers

The need to quickly resolve problems in mutual trade relations between Ukraine and Poland was discussed on Thursday at an online meeting by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czesław Siekierski and Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky.

“The Polish side expects to reach an agreement with the Ukrainian side, which will help eliminate disruptions in the Polish market and put an end to farmers’ protests,” the Polish ministry said on its website.

Responding to Solsky's question about the requirements for the Green Deal, the Polish minister said that Warsaw is striving to remove excessive requirements for farmers.

“Our expectations are clear: we will not be content with cosmetic changes,” Siekierski emphasized and expressed hope that the revision of the Green Deal will improve the situation of farmers who currently face the problem of low profitability of their farms.

It is indicated that Solsky expressed understanding of the demands of the Polish side and noted that Ukrainian farmers are awaiting decisions and putting pressure on the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

During the meeting, the ministers also discussed preparations for participation in the ninth meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, which is scheduled for the near future.
