Synchronization with ENTSO-E to increase grid transmission capacity between Ukraine, Europe up to 5 GW

Synchronization of the Integrated Power System (IPS) of Ukraine with European ENTSO-E will increase the capacity of power lines between Ukraine and Europe up to 5 GW, Minister of Energy Herman Haluschenko said in his column "Energy visa-free regime. United front with Europe" in Ukrainska Pravda on Saturday.

"There are a number of technological initiatives that will increase the transmission capacity of our power grids, the actual transmission capacity between the IPS and the ENTSO-E countries up to 4 GW and even 5 GW. This is more than the previous cross section between the IPS of Ukraine and the Russian Federation, it was about 3 GW," Haluschenko said.

As he explained, synchronization will significantly improve the reliability of the Ukrainian power system, reduce the cost of electricity generation through more economical use of generating capacity, and also improve the security of supplying electricity to consumers.

"We are creating a common energy space with the EU, a united 'energy front.' If an emergency situation arises in our country, we are guaranteed to receive electricity from Europe. If we need to urgently 'cover' European needs, we can do it," the minister stated.
