Ukraine, Russia have opportunities to continue gas talks

The gas negotiating potential between Kyiv and Moscow is not exhausted yet, Ukrainian politician and head of the political council of the Opposition Platform - For Life party Viktor Medvedchuk said.

"There is a real opportunity for that, because when we met with Mr. Miller [Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller] first time Mr. Medvedev [Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev] attended this meeting. They said that they are ready to grant a 25% discount to Ukraine, and it is very important that President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin confirmed this position several days later," Medvedchuk said in the Main Actors with Nailya Asker-Zade show on the Rossiya-1 (VGTRK) TV channel.

Kyiv continues to siphon Russian gas, but formalizes that as reverse supplies from Europe, he said.

"As the Russian gas, which is being delivered to Europe, is being siphoned in the territory of Ukraine, while the documents are processed as reverse supplies, but there is none of reverse deliveries, and as the purchase of this gas from European gas operators. So, they envisage that transit leg, they are earning somewhat between 42$ and 100$," Medvedchuk said.

"And we are suggesting these direct supplies, because the contract on direct supplies is in effect today, but it, as well as the transit contract, will end on January 1, 2020," Medvedchuk said.

The Ukrainian politician also confirmed in reply to a question from the host that Russian President Vladimir Putin is the godfather of his daughter.

"And I like it very much, and we are proud, I and she [Medvedchuk's wife] and our family that Vladimir Vladimirovich did not refuse and agreed to become a godfather of my daughter in 2004," the head of the political council of the Opposition Platform - For Life party said.
