Agreement in principal with IMF on gradual increase of gas price to imported gas price parity by 2020 reached, pace being discussed

The Ukrainian government at the talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reached an agreement in principal on the gradual increase of the price of gas to the level of the imported price parity by 2020, Board Chairman of national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy Andriy Kobolev has said.

"There is a preliminary compromise that the government has reached [with the IMF]. The pace is now being discussed," he said at the forum of the European Business Association in Kyiv on Tuesday.

According to the head of Naftogaz, the issue of gas prices is a key component of ongoing negotiations in Kyiv with the IMF mission.

At the same time, Kobolev said that he is not sure that the figures of the price increase at the first stage (23.5-25%) announced by media are correct.

Kobolev said that the second important issue in the talks with the IMF is the problem of billion debts of gas supply companies to Naftogaz and the necessity of removing these intermediaries if they do not pay in full amount.

The debt of regional gas supply companies to Naftogaz Ukrainy as of middle of September reached UAH 19.7 billion.
