Public joint-stock company Turboatom (Kharkiv) and Japan's Toshiba Energy Systems in June 2018 plan to sign a memorandum of understanding as part of stepping up cooperation between Japan and Ukraine in the nuclear energy sector, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry of Ukraine has reported.

The ministry said on its Facebook page that Japan informed about it during a working meeting in the ministry with representatives of the Japanese Embassy in Ukraine.

"Japan notified about intents to cooperate with Ukraine in modernization of equipment for the nuclear energy sector, in particular, production and modernization of turbines, including for nuclear facilities in third countries, and announced the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Turboatom and Toshiba Energy Systems scheduled for June," the ministry said.

The press service of Turboatom told Interfax-Ukraine that they cannot disclose the details of cooperation now.

The ministry said that at the working meeting the sides also discussed the state and prospects for development of the nuclear energy sector of Ukraine and plans of cooperation in the implementation of joint projects.

The ministry said that Ukraine is interested in cooperation with other countries both in instrument making and sectors providing for development and modernization of the energy sector of Ukraine.
