Case involving customs agent and brokers suspected of LNG scheme comes to court

Kharkiv region's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has sent to Chervonozavodsky District Court criminal matters involving a customs chief of Ukraine's State Fiscal Service's energy customs office. Four brokers, who are suspected in involvement in a scheme to enrich themselves from liquefied natural gas sales (LNG), are also involved.

According to Kharkiv region's PGO press service, the customs agent is charged with receiving unlawful payments (Part 3 of Article 368 of Ukraine's Criminal Code), and the brokers with offering bribes to an officials (Part 3 of article 369 of Ukraine's Criminal Code).

"According to preliminary information, employees of the energy customs office allowed importers to use the simplified procedure to clear customs. LNG samples were not taken," the press service said.

Participants of the scheme "earned" more than UAH 800,000, according to prosecutors and evidence gathered during the pretrial investigation.
