Rail blockade could frustrate DTEK's EUR 350 mln investment project to build wind farm – DTEK head

The rail line blockade threatens a failure of the investment project prepared by DTEK to build a wind farm with a capacity of 200 MW for EUR 350 million, DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko said at a meeting of Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman with mining and metal companies on Tuesday.

"After the events of the past two weeks our partners ask us if there is the rule of law [in Ukraine] and what guarantees that we can protect this investment," he said.

He said that authorities must protect national manufacturers and the rule of law.

Timchenko said that around 37,000 people are working at DTEK enterprises on the territory not under control of the Ukrainian government. They paid UAH 2 billion of taxes to the national budget in 2016.

He said that this year DTEK planned to produce 12 million tonnes of anthracite and supply it to Ukrainian energy and metal companies.

"Today the situation which did not allow shipping this coal to the territory of Ukraine has been created. It also provoked a statement about the nationalization and temporary management. DTEK worked and will work only in the field of Ukrainian legislation. If we do not have a chance to work, our enterprises will stop producing goods," he said.
