Rada rejects bill on fines for TV channels

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has rejected bill No. 3562 on amending the law on television and radio broadcasting, relating to protection of the information space of Ukraine.

According to an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent, only 177 people's deputies voted for the bill at first reading.

The bill proposed the introduction of a clear procedure for determining the size of fines and their application by the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council. It was suggested that the calculation of fines should be carried out in accordance with the size of a license fee paid by the licensee and the issue of a license, without taking into account conditions (increase/decrease), which were in force at the time of making the decision on applying fines by the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine.
