Czech Skoda confirms readiness to participate in completion of Khmelnytsky NPP's reactors – Energoatom

Skoda (the Czech Republic) has confirmed its readiness to participate in completing reactors three and four of Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant (NPP), President of National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom Yuriy Nedashkovsky said in Kyiv on Friday.

"We're received confirmation that they are ready to confirm by their regulatory decisions that they will take part in the completion of these reactors via the production of two reactor systems," he said.

Nedashkovsky added that the negotiations on the commercial conditions of cooperation with Skoda were initiated by the denouncement of the agreement on completing Khmelnytsky NPP's reactors with Russia.

He said that Energoatom has prepared and agreed the feasibility study for the completion of the reactors using the Skoda systems with all interested agencies.

He said that Ukraine will also hold talks on the possible participation of China in the completion of the reactors early 2016, however he said that he is not hopefully about potential Chinese cooperation.

"It's hard to say now, but from the point of experience, it is likely that there will be tough conditions in using the [Chinese] workforce and localization of equipment production [in China]. I don’t think that it would acceptable for Ukraine," he said.

He said that the completion of reactors three and four of Khmelnytsky NPP could cost around EUR 4 billion.
