Bringing Ukrainian roads to quality level requires UAH 50-100 bln annually during 10-20 years
The restoration of Ukrainian roads and bringing them to a level of acceptable quality level requires UAH 50-100 billion per year over 10-20 years, the director of the road market strategic development department at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Roman Khmil has said.
"To restore the roads we have, we need UAH 50-100 billion per year during ten years. If we take UAH 50 billion per year, it is 20 years, if it is UAH 100 billion – ten years," he said on Hromadske TV.
According to him, this amount is not too large compared to European countries.
"This is not big money, for instance, Poland in the last ten years invested around EUR80 billion in roads. Part of the funds was collected in the form of excise taxes, most [of the funds] were given by the European Union in the form of loans," he added.
As reported, with reference to Infrastructure Minister Andriy Pyvovarsky, there won't be fundamental changes to the road sector in Ukraine this year because the State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine is facing an acute shortage of funds for road repair and maintenance.
