The Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine has assessed Ukraine's losses from the annexation of Crimea in agriculture and related sectors at UAH 201.6 billion.

"The losses Ukraine faced due to the annexation of Crimea are large. According to the calculations, the possible loss in agriculture and related sectors came to UAH 201.6 billion of fixed assets and UAH 12.6 billion of revenue losses," advisor to the agricultural policy and food minister Oleksandr Liyev told the Novoye Vremia publication.

He said that the annexation of Crimea also made it impossible to access water bio-resources in the Black Sea and internal water reservoirs in Crimea, which as a result caused losses of UAH 363 million.

Liyev said that 22 grain elevators and three port terminals, which accounted for a 7.2% share of total grain handling capacity, are located in Crimea.

"The ministry has asked the Interior Ministry to monitor facts of getting products bottled by Ukrainian Massandra, Novy Svet, Magarach, Zolota Balka and Sevastopol Sparkling Wine Plant to the shelves of the stores using trade promotion offices of Ukraine in the world," the advisor said.

He added that some Crimean wine-making companies, including state-run companies, are being reregistered under Russian laws. In many cases the names remain the same and the companies will be considered "twins." This labeling during the sale of products allows Ukraine to file claims with international courts.

The agriculture ministry is also considering the creation of wholesale and retail markets in the contact line zone where Crimean residents will be able to buy Ukrainian food at Ukrainian prices in any amount.

The ministry also plans to appoint heads of state enterprises in Crimea.

"These will be lawyers, as they key duty will be claim-filing work at local and international courts and the representative function in relations with potential contractors," he said.
