Yatseniuk wants audit of energy companies to prove reasons for raising utility tariffs

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk says he wants every energy company in Ukraine, including NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, Ukrgazvydobuvannia and Ukrtransgaz to undergo an audit to prove that there are reasons for an increase in housing and utilities tariffs.

"I will demand the audit of all energy companies, including NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, Ukrgazvydobuvannia and Ukrtransgaz, so that we could see every figure in wear and tear, investment and spending by all state-owned companies," he said at a government meeting on Wednesday.

Yatseniuk said such an audit will be the most transparent way to check if the increased tariffs are fair and to demonstrate that they are justified.

He also said that statements by some politicians about the possibility of reducing utilities rates are "fables."

Yatseniuk announced that the first preliminary results of the audit of the tariffs, which was conducted by the largest international audit firms, could be ready by the end of the current week, and they will be made public.
