Vehicle market in Ukraine in February 28% down due to fall in commercial car sales

Sales of motor vehicles of all types (including used cars) in Ukraine in January-February fell by 28% compared to the same period in 2013, to 32,533 vehicles, according to the Ukrautoprom association.

"This decline was formed by lower sales in the segments of commercial cars and buses, where the demand for transport decreased by 76% and 29% respectively," reads a press release from the association.

According to Ukrautoprom, in February operators increased sales on January this year by 28%, to 18,288 vehicles, which, however, is 24% down on February last year.

"It is worth noting that the share of new vehicles in sales was 89%, against 62% for the same two months in 2013," reads the document.

Last month, the major share of registrations (15,625) traditionally accounted for cars, 97% of which were new cars. Sales of passenger cars increased by 28% compared to January and by 11% compared to February last year.

At the same time, sales of commercial vehicles decreased by four times compared to February 2013, but increased by 34% compared to January this year - to 2,454 units, while the share of used cars was 59% against 89% in February 2013.
