Bubka notes importance of sports education and science for development of Olympic movement

Serhiy Bubka, the president of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine and a candidate for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has noted the importance of sports education and science for the development of the international Olympic movement.

"Under conditions of globalization and rapid changes in the world, sport is an integral part of the life of society. This is a specific area that unites millions of people and a lot of money around the idea of a healthy way of life and harmonious development. And this area requires special knowledge in various fields - from physiology and psychology to management and brand building," the quoted him as saying the NOC's press service quoted him as saying on Thursday.

On September 16, Sochi will host the opening of the campus of the Russian International Olympic University. This event will mark the start of its unique educational program, the Master of Sports Administration (MSA), and representatives of 13 countries will arrive in the capital of the 2014 Winter Olympics to undergo training under this program. Bubka will be one of the first lecturers of the MSA program.

"The opening of the Russian International Olympic University is an event of great importance not only to Eastern Europe, but also to the whole world. I would compare it with the opening of the first universities in medieval Europe, from which, in fact, the era of the Renaissance started. Today, concentrating the vast array of knowledge on the subject of Olympic sports at RIOU and collecting the best carriers of this knowledge, from top managers to coaches, we will get a new generation of professionals, people who will professionally manage a unique industry," Bubka said.
