Sports Ministry: 24 sport facilities, 19 youth infrastructure facilities damaged in Ukraine in 2024
In Ukraine, 24 sports facilities and 19 youth infrastructure facilities were damaged in 2024, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has reported.
"According to the Regional Military Administrations, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, 525 sports infrastructure facilities have been damaged (103 facilities have been completely or partially destroyed, 422 have significant or partial damage), of which 24 facilities were damaged in 2024," the Ministry of Sports said in response to an Interfax-Ukraine request.
In addition, it is reported that as of the end of December 2024, some 121 youth infrastructure facilities were damaged (28 destroyed, 23 damaged, 70 occupied), of which 19 facilities were damaged in 2024.
"Please note that the figures are not final, as some facilities cannot be accounted for due to the fact that they are located in the occupied territory or on the front line," the ministry stressed.
According to the Ministry of Sports, the restoration of sports facilities and youth infrastructure facilities in the regions takes place mainly at the expense of local budgets, private investments, and other sources not prohibited by law.
Thus, by now it is known about the restoration of approximately 70 sports infrastructure facilities.
In addition, it is reported that nine youth infrastructure facilities (youth centers and youth spaces) have been restored and resumed their activities.
"No information has been received from the regional military administrations regarding the restored sports infrastructure and youth infrastructure facilities in 2024," the ministry stated.
As reported, as of early October 2024, the number of killed Ukrainian athletes and coaches as a result of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine reached 516 people.
