Zaporizhia NPP depends on one power line for the second day due to shelling by Russians
Work to repair the high-voltage power transmission line in Zaporizhia region, which supplies the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant and which was switched off on February 20 in the afternoon due to shelling by the Russian occupiers, continues while the plant remains on one power line, the Ministry of Energy reported.
In general, there is no shortage in the energy system, according to the ministry's update on its Telegram channel on Thursday.
According to the ministry, a thermal power plant unit has undergone short-term repairs, and there are six thermal power units in reserve, which will be used if necessary.
At the same time, as a result of the shelling that occurred on Thursday morning in Mykolaiv region, 700 consumers were left without gas supply.
As reported, on February 20, at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, one of the two overhead power transmission lines was disconnected.
Currently, the only external overhead line PL-750kV Dniprovska remains in operation, which connects the Zaporizhia NPP with the integrated power system of Ukraine and provides power to the plant's own needs.
"If this line fails, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe receives another complete blackout, which is a serious violation of the conditions of safe operation of the plant and is fraught with an accident," NNEGC Energoatom said, recalling that the Zaporizhia NPP has already experienced eight complete blackouts and one partial – with the launch of emergency diesel generators and security systems.
