The signing by the President of the law “On Amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses and other laws of Ukraine on improving the procedure for holding accountable persons authorized to perform the functions of the state or local self-government” may lead to the removal from the Unified State Register of persons who have committed corruption or related to corruption offenses, about 35,000 people, said head of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), Oleksandr Novikov.

“If the law on the right to be forgotten for corrupt officials comes into force, approximately 10,000 people will remain there. Some 35,000 people, including 10,000 people, who committed corruption crimes, will be forgotten,” Novikov said in an interview with Radio Liberty.

He clarified that currently, approximately 45,000 people are included in the register of corrupt officials who have committed corruption or corruption-related offenses, including 12,000 people sentenced by the court for corruption offenses, 25,000 people held accountable for administrative offenses, and 2,000 people - for disciplinary offenses related to corruption.

“Today, the president has a bill to sign, which actually removes from the relevant register of persons who have committed corruption or corruption-related offenses, more than 10,000 persons convicted of criminal corruption offences. After this, these persons will be able to take part, for example, in government procurement. This is a huge risk, we hope that the president will not sign this law,” Novikov emphasized.
