NABU detectives under the leadership of the SAPO, with operational support from the SBU Department in Sumy region, exposed Sumy mayor and the director of the regional Department of Infrastructure for receiving illegal benefits worth UAH 2.13 million, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) press service said.

It is noted that as part of the pretrial investigation, it was established that these persons demanded undue benefits for resolving the issue of establishing a new economically justified tariff for the legal entity for the management of household waste and not creating artificial obstacles in the implementation of economic activities by the enterprise by the executive committee of the Sumy City Council.

"During November 2022 – October 2023, the investigation documented the receipt by individuals of unlawful benefits in the total amount of UAH 2.13 million," according to a statement published on Monday evening.

It is noted "October 2, 2023, these persons were exposed immediately after receiving the third part of the agreed funds UAH 1.43 million."

Now the mayor of the city of Sumy and the director of the Department are detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine. The issue of informing them of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure is being decided.

The investigation is ongoing.
