Russia increasingly using S-300, S-400 missiles against ground targets due to lack of ballistic missiles – Ihnat

The enemy has less than 100 Iskander ballistic missiles left, therefore, the Russian occupation forces are increasingly using S-300 and S-400 missiles to strike ground targets, Spokesman for the Command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Yuriy Ihnat has said.

"The fact that the enemy began to increasingly use S-300 missiles and, as we can see, possibly S-400 missiles (these are anti-aircraft missiles designed for air combat and the destruction of air targets), against ground targets from Kharkiv to Mykolaiv region, and, as we can see, against Kyiv as well, shows that it has few ballistic missiles left," he told a press briefing at the Ukraine Media Center in Kyiv on Monday.

The S-400 is a new system that the Russians are very proud of, which has a range of hundreds of kilometers. Such missiles can be destroyed in the air with the help of western air defense systems or directly at the positions from which they are launched, Ihnat said.

He emphasized that the enemy has less than a hundred Iskander missiles left, however, it still has a large stock of S-300 missiles, since they are manufactured by Russia.

Speaking about the Kh-22 missiles, Ihnat noted that Russia has about a hundred of such missiles in stock.

"We are talking about a hundred missiles. We also had Kh-22 missiles in our arsenal, however, they were handed over to Russia for gas debts, just as well as Tu-22M3 aircraft... Some were given away, some were cut. Their fate is such that they return to Ukraine. This, too, has already become a meme on Russian public pages," he said.

Ihnat emphasized that the enemy has been using this type of missile since the very beginning of the war against Ukraine – more than 210 missiles were fired since February 24, 2022, and none of them was shot down.

He again recalled that modern western systems like Patriot and SAMP-T are capable of shooting down Kh-22 missiles. Currently, Ukraine does not have such equipment in its arsenal.
