Kuleba calls on G7, EU to adopt 'most severe sanctions' against Russia this week

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, on behalf of the victims of Bucha and the people of Ukraine, has called on the G7 countries and the EU to adopt the most severe sanctions against the Russian Federation this week.

"Half measures are no longer enough. I demand from our partners, on behalf of the victims of Bucha and the people of Ukraine, to adopt the most severe sanctions against Russia this week. This is not a request from the Foreign Minister of Ukraine. This is a call for victims of rape, torture and murder, their relatives and the entire Ukrainian nation," Kuleba said at a press conference with British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss in Warsaw on Monday.

The minister stressed that the situation in Mariupol is much worse than in Bucha.

“The horrors that we saw in Bucha are just the tip of the iceberg of all the crimes that have been committed by the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine to date. I can tell you without exaggeration and with great regret that the situation in Mariupol is much worse compared to what we saw in Bucha and other cities and villages near Kyiv," Kuleba said.

He stated that the horrors of Bucha, Mariupol and other places require serious G7 and EU sanctions.

"The horrors of Bucha, Mariupol and elsewhere require serious G7 and EU sanctions. I appreciate everything that has been done up to this point, but Liz (Truss) is right: the West continues to fuel the Russian war machine with payments for fossil fuels, trade between Russia and Western countries, which is still taking place, financial transactions made through Russian banks that have not yet been disconnected from SWIFT," Kuleba said.

He noted that he had heard thousands of arguments why certain sanctions could not be imposed against Russia.

“Now is the time to put aside all doubts, unpreparedness, business-related arguments and think about the suffering of people and the need to stop the Russian war machine until it kills and destroys more in its path,” he said.
