Amazon launches refugee employment program

American company Amazon.com, Inc. launched the Welcome Door program, which will offer resources and support to refugee and humanitarian immigrant workers, including citizenship assistance, free legal support and mentoring.

As part of this initiative, Amazon will also reimburse employees for Employment Authorization Document (EAD) fees, according to a post published on the Business Wire platform on Thursday.

Employees will also have access to professional development opportunities, including free college tuition and English as a Second Language (ESL) tuition.

These new resources will be offered to Amazon employees in the U.S. starting next month, and the company plans to expand the program globally by the end of the year.

"At Amazon, we have a variety of jobs and welcome all kinds of people, and we're proud to offer enhanced support for refugees around the world," according to the text of the message.

In addition to Welcome Door, Amazon supports Ukrainians through the Tent Partnership for Refugees program.

Amazon is among the companies that have pledged to provide immediate and long-term support for people leaving Ukraine.

"With millions of people fleeing war and conflict in countries like Afghanistan and Ukraine, a good job is one of the most impactful ways for refugees to build a new life. I hope the Welcome Door program inspires many more businesses to ensure these incredibly talented, resourceful, and dedicated people have the tools and support they need to thrive in their careers," said Veronica Rossini, acting executive director at the Tent Partnership for Refugees.

As previously reported, Amazon Web Service (AWS), a cloud platform division of the American company Amazon.com Inc., has stopped registering new users in the Russian Federation and Belarus.
