People continue to be rescued from rubble of Mariupol drama theater, no data on dead – city council

From under the rubble of the Drama Theater in Mariupol destroyed by Russian troops, people continue to be rescued, there is no information about the dead, Mariupol City Council said.

"On March 16, the occupying forces of Russia purposefully destroyed the Drama Theater in the very center of Mariupol. At the time of the bombardment, there were up to 1,000 people in this place. Mostly women, children and the elderly, who were hiding in the basement of the theater from continuous shelling by the aggressor," city council said in the Telegram channel.

The city council said that due to constant air raids and hostilities in the city, it was almost impossible to dismantle the rubble immediately after the shelling.

"In rare moments of relative calm, people quickly approached the site of the destroyed theater and rescued Mariupol residents who were trapped. According to preliminary information, there is no information about the dead. But there is information about one seriously injured person," the city council said.

Debris clearing continues as far as possible.
