Rada exempts people with disabilities, those who care for them, seriously ill children from military service

The Verkhovna Rada exempted persons with disabilities and persons caring for such persons with disabilities and seriously ill children from military service.

The adoption of the relevant bill No. 7140-1 at the first and second reading was supported by 334 MPs at the plenary session on Tuesday.

The document amends a number of articles of the laws On military duty and military service and On mobilization training and mobilization, according to which certain categories of persons liable for military service from among persons with disabilities are exempted from military service (urgent, during a special period and mobilization), as well as those who care for such people and the incapacitated.

These norms also apply to citizens who support children with disabilities, children with severe perinatal lesions of the nervous system, severe congenital malformations, rare orphan diseases, oncological, oncohematological diseases, cerebral palsy, severe mental disorders, type I diabetes mellitus (insulin-dependent), acute or chronic kidney disease IV degree.

The Rada also exempted from military service people who care for children who were seriously injured, in need of organ transplantation, in palliative care, when they cross the state border of Ukraine in a state of emergency or martial law.

In addition, the adopted law applies to persons who take care of orphans, children deprived of parental care, under 18 years of age and living or assigned to institutions of various types, children brought up in foster families, family-type orphanages.
