Firtash asks to be allowed to enter Ukraine to protect country from Russian invasion – lawyer

Businessman Dmytro Firtash opposes Russia's invasion of Ukraine and asks to be allowed to enter the country now without changing the status quo in his case with the United States.

The statement on behalf of the businessman was published by his legal adviser Lenny Jay Davis, the press service of the Inter TV channel reported on Facebook.

"Dmytro Firtash is unequivocally opposed to Russia's invasion of his homeland, Ukraine. Mr. Firtash is doing everything he can to protect Ukrainian sovereignty, the democratically elected government, and his fellow citizens. Firtash is now in Austria, exercising his right to challenge the U.S. extradition request. Dmytro Firtash does not demand change in the status of the Austrian procedure for his extradition, other than allowing the Austrian authorities to temporarily return to Ukraine to do everything possible to protect their country," the lawyer said.

Firtash told the Austrian authorities that he would return to Austria after the end of the state of emergency in Ukraine or at the request of the Austrian authorities.

"Mr. Firtash wants to return to his homeland to help it in times of crisis," the lawyer said.
