Second round of local elections to be held – Rada chairman

2 min read

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov has no doubts that the second round of local elections in Ukraine on Sunday will take place.

"Of course, it will be held... I am not the CEC, but today I see no reason or opportunity to suspend the second round of local elections," Razumkov told reporters on Sunday in Kyiv.

The speaker of the Verkhovna Rada said that he is confident that the second round of elections should take place, "because we cannot leave communities without a legitimate government." "It is important that the entire vertical the authorities work aiming at the common outcome," Razumkov said.

He said that the draft resolution of the Verkhovna Rada, proposing not to hold the second round of mayoral elections, has already been withdrawn. At the same time, Razumkov said that every MP can register any resolution, about anything, "but this does not mean that the parliament will adopt it."

According to the website of the Verkhovna Rada, draft resolution No. 4234 on amendments to the decree on the next local elections in 2020, which proposed not to conduct a second vote in the elections of deputies of rural, town, city councils (as well as territorial communities with the number of voters up to 10,000) and mayors of villages, towns, and cities during the quarantine period associated with COVID-19, was withdrawn on October 22.
