Driver of Hummer who ran over child in Kyiv served suspicion notice

The driver of the off-road car "Hummer" on Tuesday evening ran over a girl in the center of Kyiv has been served a suspicion notice under Part 2 of Article 286 (violation of road safety rules) of Ukraine's Criminal Code of Ukraine, head of the Main Department of the National Police of Kyiv Andriy Kryshchenko has said.

"The driver was detained. He has been informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code, and the investigator detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code. … The investigation continues. Samples have been taken to determine alcohol intoxication or drug use," Kryshchenko told 112.ukraine TV channel on Wednesday morning.

Kryshchenko said the driver left the scene of the accident before being apprehended.

Kyiv's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) said the suspect is 23 years old. Prosecutors said he ignored a red light and ran over a 10-year old girl, who died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
