Poroshenko instructs MFA to submit proposals on joining Netherlands, Austria initiatives on Russia's responsibility for MH17 disaster

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said that he instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to make proposals on the possibility of joining the Netherlands-Australia-initiated persecution of Russia for the downing of Boeing 777 of MH17 flight over Donbas in 2014.

"The decision of the Netherlands and Australia to begin prosecution of the Russian Federation at the interstate level for the shooting down of the Malaysian Airlines MH17 aircraft on July 17, 2014 is an extremely important step in ensuring Russia's international legal responsibility for the systematic violation of its international obligations," Poroshenko wrote on Facebook on Friday.

He noted that this step would seamlessly complement Ukraine's actions in the UN International Court in a lawsuit on the basis of the International Convention on the Prohibition of the Financing of Terrorism.

"I instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately make proposals on the possibility of joining the process initiated by the Netherlands and Australia," the president said.
