Ukrzaliznytsia has called the development of railway communication with the eastern regions of the country the most priority direction among capital investment projects, acting chairman of the board Yevhen Kravtsov has said.

"The first and priority direction for us is communication with the eastern regions of the country. This is the restoration and increase in traffic in the mining and metallurgical complex. Today, due to the partial occupation of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, part of communication with Mariupol is blocked, the main ways have not been used for a few last years," he said, speaking at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Kyiv.

He noted the availability of a railway section between Mariupol and Zaporizhia, which passes through Volnovakha and Kamysh-Zoria, on which up to ten freight trains per day were recently passed, whereas today this figure rose to 21 pairs of routes.
