Ukraine, Moldova block smuggling of hashish from Spain to Russia

The investigative units of the State Border Service of Ukraine, together with Moldovan law enforcement bodies, have blocked the transit channel for smuggling of hashish from Spain to Russia.

"A few days ago, employees of the Moldovan Interior Ministry stopped a car driven by a Moldovan citizen at the Galati-Giurgiulesti checkpoint for entry from Romania, in which 30 kilograms of hashish from Spain were found," the press office of the State Border Service of Ukraine reported on Wednesday.

Ukrainian border guards established that the smuggling of this batch of drugs had been organized by a Moldovan citizen. He arrived in Ukraine four days before he was placed on Interpol's international wanted list.

"As part of international legal assistance, the department of operational activities of the State Border Service decided to detain the organizer. At the end of last week, employees of the State Border Service, together with officers of the National Police in Lviv region, detained the offender in the town of Truskavets," reads the statement.

At the same time, the State Border Service of Ukraine noted that it counts on further effective cooperation in countering cross-border crime on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.
