Opposition activist Navalny gets 30 days of arrest for breaching rally rules

Moscow's Simonovsky District Court has given opposition politician Alexei Navalny 30 days of administrative arrest for violating the rules for holding rallies and demonstrations, an Interfax correspondent reported.

"Navalny shall be found guilty of committing an offence under Part 8 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences (a repeated breach of the established procedure for organizing and holding an assembly, a rally or a demonstration) and shall be sentenced to 30 days of administrative arrest," Judge Anastasia Loskutova said in a court resolution issued overnight into Tuesday.

In such a way, the court dismissed the arguments presented by Navalny's lawyers, who asked the court to drop this case citing the absence of the aforementioned offence in Navalny's actions.
