Klimkin to visit Myanmar, Brunei and Singapore in next few days

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin is making the first in the history of bilateral relations visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on January 11-13, 2017.

The goal of Klimkin's visit to Myanmar is to intensify political dialogue, discuss perspective directions of bilateral cooperation, deepen cooperation in the international arena, as well as to exchange of views on topical international and regional issues, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on its official Facebook page on Wednesday.

"During the visit Klimkin is scheduled to meet with President of Myanmar Htin Kyaw, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Aung San Suu Kyi, as well as the commander of the Myanmar Armed Forces Min Aung Hlaing," the report says.

In addition, on January 13-14, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister will be in Brunei Darussalam "to resume the political dialogue at the highest level, discuss ways of bringing bilateral relations to a new level, as well as to strengthen cooperation in international and regional organizations."

The program of the visit to Brunei will include a meeting with Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Crown Prince of Brunei Al-Muhtadi Bill Bolkiah, the second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lim Jock Seng and the Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism Dato Ali Apong.

Then Klimkin is to pay a visit to Singapore on January 15-16.

"The purpose of the visit is to maintain the dynamics of the political dialogue, intensification of economic and investment cooperation, the establishment of cooperation in the humanitarian and scientific and technical spheres," the Foreign Ministry said.

In Singapore Klimkin will hold talks with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan and Home Affairs Minister of the Republic of Singapore K Shanmugam.

In addition, Klimkin will deliver speech at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and will exchange views with leading political scientists and experts of Singapore.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister is also scheduled to meet with the Ukrainian community of Singapore.
