Verkhovna Rada plans to create committee on offshore scandals investigation

Preparations of the bill on special interim investigative committees for the investigation of offshore scandals, including with the involvement of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, are underway in the Verkhovna Rada.

"The sooner we create this commission for the investigation of offshore scandals, for the investigation of the allegations that the president operates a business which is forbidden by the Constitution of Ukraine, the sooner we settle down to a course of normal democratization of the parliament and its relations with the president," Yehor Soboliev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Preventing and Combating Corruption and a member of the Samopomich (Self-Reliance) faction, said on Tuesday.

The bill on special interim investigative committees for the investigation of offshore scandals should be signed into law as soon as possible, for "everybody, including the president, the parliament and other top-level officials, to abide the law, and not to be above it," he said.

In turn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy has said that Oksana Syroid, the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, will be in charge of preparations of the bill on special interim investigative committees. "As for the issue of creation of special interim investigative committees, we have agreed to hold consultations, and Syroid will coordinate these consultations," Parubiy said at a meeting of the coordination board of heads of factions, committees and groups of the Verkhovna Rada.
