Saakashvili waits for fresh premier and government, says 'almost all' reformers already quit government

Head of Odesa Regional State Administration Mikheil Saakashvili when commenting on Economic Development and Trade Minister Aivaras Abromavicius' statement about resignation said that he pinned his hopes on a new government and premier.

At a press conference in Odesa on Wednesday, Saakashvili said that Ukraine's Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk called Abromavicius' accusations towards the Ukrainian MPs of the lobbying of the corruption interests as "a flight from the battle field."

"I want to say that the government is not a battlefield now. The government has turned into a swamp, the swamp of corruption and reforms. Today, it is not the government, rather a cemetery of all our reform endeavors," he said.

"It is not the battle field that Aivaras left, he decided to escape this swamp. Just like minister [Andriy] Pyvovarsky did earlier, just like minister [Oleksiy] Pavlenko did after some hesitation. Almost all reformers have left Ukrainian government," Odesa regional administration head said.

Saakashvili also recalled that he was criticized by the deputies from different factions, including Petro Poroshenko Block faction.

"We have to do with a usual hole-and-corner deal. They all are making deals on something. But none of these deals will become reality if Ukraine's prime minister doesn't act as a registrar of these deals. As neither [MP Ihor] Kononeko, nor [MP Hennadiy] Chekita, including those international conmen, have no power to appoint and dismiss heads of state enterprises," Saakashvili said.

He highlighted that together with Abromavicius they "have been demanding within the past few months to discharge heads of enterprises involved in embezzlement."

Saakashvili said that in particular Abromavicius wrote a letter to Yatseniuk and asked to dismiss director general of United Mining and Chemical Company state enterprise Ruslan Zhurylo "based on the report of a theft" in the company. "The prime minister did not even bother to see the minister's letter, and tabled it," Saakashvili said.

Odesa regional administration head further recalled that after a corruption scandal around Mykola Martynenko a request came to replace Odesa Port-Side Plant management. "Yatseniuk not only haven't replaced them, in late December, following all the scandals, he awarded [Serhiy] Pereloma, supervisory board head, Martynenko's henchman, Order for Merit of Ukraine," Saakashvili said.

He also stated that he believed that Abromavicius had done all he could. " But most importantly, he didn't participate in these secret deals. And when an individual is not involved, he can actually voice out the opinion. They thought everyone would stay silent, leave quietly because of compromising materials, and there was leverage for everyone. There are no compromising materials on Abromavicius. There are no compromising materials on us … And I don't intend and won't stay silent," Saakashvili said.

At the same time, Odesa regional state administration head said that he hoped Yatseniuk's governmental report on February 16 would "bring about the new government, premier, who would immediately dismiss and sign all these prolonged requests for replacement of thieves and crooks."
