Poroshenko discusses situation in Donbas with U.S. Congress delegation
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with a U.S. Congress delegation led by Peter Roskam where they discussed the situation in Donbas and the efforts of the global community to solve the ongoing crisis.
Poroshenko told the delegation that the situation remains tense and requires significant efforts to prevent further aggression against Ukraine.
"Everyday there are attempts to escalate the situation, but the courageous action of the Ukrainian military restrains the aggressor," he said.
Poroshenko expressed his gratitude to the United States for its constant support for Ukraine in its struggle for territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Poroshenko emphasized the important role of the United States in ensuring global security and facilitating a peaceful settlement to the Donbas conflict.
In turn, Congressman Peter Roskam emphasized that the U.S. and its allies now face a serious challenge in countering authoritarianism in the world, adding "that's why providing support for Ukraine is one of the top priorities of U.S. foreign policy."
Poroshenko highlighted the important role the U.S. plays in the provision of macro-financial assistance for Ukraine.
According to the president's press service, the meeting was also attended by Congresswomen Dina Titus and Lois Capps, Congressmen Tom Rice, David Price and Rob Woodall, as well as Ambassador of the United States to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt.
