Health Minister considers blocking of drug procurement through AMC to be sabotage

Health Minister Alexander Kvitashvili considers the blocking of drug procurement through filing complaints to the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMC) to be an act of sabotage.

He stated this at a press conference, commenting on the complaints from bidders, who suspended insulin purchases in Kyiv.

"I do not understand this. This is an act of sabotage, due to which Kyiv almost failed to purchase insulin. If a company can stop the tender, it's a disaster. Stopping trades when vitally important drugs are purchased is sabotage," he said.

At the same time, commenting on procurement at the expense of the national budget, Kvitashvili said that as of June 5 the expert and technical group at the Ministry of Health had sent 15 draft nomenclatures for improvement, while final decisions on nine draft nomenclatures are to be made this week. In particular, it is planned to make decisions on the procurement of medicines for the treatment of pediatric hemophilia, Gaucher disease, dwarfism, chronic viral hepatitis, as well as the range of remedies for children with congenital immunodeficiency and patients undergoing transplantation.

Kvitashvili also noted that currently medicines, purchased in late 2014, are being supplied.
