Yatseniuk: Signatories of Budapest Memorandum should demand that Russia fulfill its obligations

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that Russia, through its actions against Ukraine, has violated a number of its international obligations, including the Budapest Memorandum, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers has reported.

"Russian tanks, artillery and Buks [surface-to-air missile systems] today move on Ukrainian territory. Russian invaded and annexed Crimea. A large-scale war is being waged against Ukraine - with the use of military, economic, energy and information resources," he said on Friday.

He also stated that the leaders of EU countries could ensure that under current circumstances, the first chancellor of the German Empire, Otto von Bismarck, had been proved right about Russia.

"Today I will not quote German Chancellor Bismarck in terms of the value of contracts with Russia. Today the head of the European governments have the sad opportunity to verify the fairness of estimates of their predecessor from the 19th century. However, we will remind Russia that the entire civilized world today lives by the rules of the 21st century. And we continue to demand that Russia stop violating international law. Fulfill your international obligations that you signed. Implement the Budapest Memorandum, implement the Minsk agreements and remove your weapons and terrorists from Ukrainian land," Yatseniuk said.
