Lukashenko tells border guards to approach Ukraine border demarcation responsibly

1 min read

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has told the chairman of the State Border Guard Committee, Leonid Maltsev, to be serious about demarcation of the country's border with Ukraine, the president's press office told Interfax on Friday.

"The Ukrainian border is a very important issue. We agreed that we need to do serious work over Ukrainian border in terms of its demarcation. Our Ukrainian friends cannot take it as offense because it was not we who proposed this, they wanted it, they started this work, we had to start this work as well," Lukashenko said.

The state of the country's border security is rated as stable, the border committee chairman said. The border authorities are working as usual. Border checkpoints are under pressure as the Christmas and New Year holiday season approaches. However, Maltsev said that the State Border Guard Committee is prepared for any change in the situation.
