Georgian parliament speaker surprised by minister naturalization in Ukraine

Georgian Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili said, commenting on the staffing of the Ukrainian government with foreign citizens, that he believes granting citizenship to ministers by means of naturalization is "a strange method."

"The practice of inviting ministers from foreign countries is not very common. We know that there are other methods of experience exchange and Georgia often uses such methods, too, and we have had a lot of foreign consultants," Usupashvili said.

Usupashvili said he knows that the naturalization of foreigners is common in sports.

"As to running a country, it takes more than just competence and skills, no matter how skilled a person is. For this reason, the experiment conducted by our Ukrainian colleagues is interesting and risky," Usupashvili said.

Usupashvili wished success to Alexander Kvitashvili, who has been appointed to the post of healthcare minister of Ukraine. Kvitashvili was healthcare minister in the Georgian government when Mikheil Saakashvili was president.

"I wish the people of Ukraine to see a better healthcare system under Kvitashvili and I wish Kvitashvili to realize his ideas at least in Ukraine because no special successes were observed under his leadership in Georgia in this sphere," Usupashvili said.
