Donetsk airport remains under Ukrainian control, no blasts reported there - NSDC

Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) has denied reports that one terminal at the Donetsk airport has been blown up, NSDC spokesman Andriy Lysenko has said.

"According to the latest reports, participating in the storming of the airport are directly Russian special forces, but this does not help the enemy, and the airport, including the old and new terminals, remains under the control of Ukrainian servicemen. Nobody blew up anything there, and this information is untrue," he said at a briefing on Monday.

He said that it made no sense to blow up the old terminal, because it was part of the protective structures for Ukrainian servicemen.

"The airport will be held as long as there's a task to hold it," Lysenko said.

Earlier it was reported on social networks that Ukrainian defenders of the Donetsk airport had blown up the old terminal and retreated from there. At the same time, according to a source of the Insider online news site, the old terminal was destroyed by powerful artillery fire from militants in the early hours of Monday.
