Ukrainian army sustains casualties in landmine explosions, gunfire in southeast

Tensions persist in the anti-terrorist operation zone in southeastern Ukraine and instability levels are the highest in the areas of Donetsk, Horlivka, Luhansk, Antratsyt and Severodonetsk, Kyiv-based Information Resistance Group leader Dmytro Tymchuk reported on Thursday.

A BTR-80 armored personnel carrier was blown up by a landmine near the town of Chervona Zoria, Donetsk region. "Five servicemen were injured," he wrote on Facebook.

"Another landmine blasted a BMP-2 infantry combat vehicle in the same area. The explosion triggered detonation of the vehicle's weapons. Two servicemen died and six were injured," Tymchuk said.

The Dovzhansky checkpoint was put under mortar fire. Snipers injured five Ukrainian servicemen, Tymchuk stressed.

One serviceman died and another three were wounded in an ambushed army convoy, he said.

Five Ukrainian army roadblocks in various areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions were put under gunfire overnight. One serviceman sustained injuries, Tymchuk concluded.
