NATO soon to present plan to maintain peace amid situation around Ukraine - commander

NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Philip Breedlove has said that NATO will soon present a comprehensive plan to maintain peace given the situation around Ukraine.

"I believe we already have a very good plan for sustainable airspace. I think we have a plan that is coming together very nicely for sustainable maritime," he said in an interview with CNN.

He also added: "And now the tougher discussion will be with our allies about what the land component [should be], which will be the reassurance piece that carries us into this new paradigm." He said that in these conditions "it's absolutely critical that we present both an air, maritime, and land picture."

"We'll be developing that over the next several days," Breedlove said.

He estimated that "they [Russians] could move within 12 hours of a go," and added that "they could move right away if given the go."

Russian troops are "a combined-arms army, with all of the pieces necessary should there be a choice to make an incursion into Ukraine," he said. Forces are "supported by fixed-wing aircraft [airplanes], rotary aircraft [helicopters] – all of the logistics required in order to successfully make an incursion if they needed," Breedlove said.
