Ukraine continues chairing CIS- Foreign Ministry

Ukraine is continuing to act in the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and chairing this organization, Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Danylo Lubkivsky said.

"At this minute, we are still chairing the CIS. We are using this institution, we understand what will happen next, and will not do the demarches into which we are being provoked," the high-ranking diplomat said at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.

He also cited Acting Foreign Minister Andriy Deschytsia who spoke about the inefficiency of the Commonwealth. "What is the point of an organization if it is ineffective and incapable," Deschytsia was quoted as saying by his deputy.

"But I want to clarify the approach: we are being provoked into a demarche, we are being provoked in various speculative ways so as to demonstrate that the Ukrainian state is aggressive and that would justify Russia's behavior. This is not going to happen," Lubkivsky said.

Kyiv has a clear understanding of the sequence of its policies within the CIS, he said. "We know that if this organization shows its incapacity, our reaction will be adequate and include all possible options," the deputy foreign minister said.
