Klitschko claims to have renounced German residence permit
Leader of UDAR party Vitali Klitschko has said he renounced his German residence permit and is a citizen of Ukraine.
"Yes, it is true that I had the right to reside in Europe. Today I don't have such a right. As of the moment of declaration [of Ukraine's independence] I have been a citizen of Ukraine and remain one today. I don't have a residence permit in Germany," he said at a Sunday press conference in Dnipropetrovsk.
Answering a question from reporters about a claim demanding that he submit information to court about the receipt of a German top award Klitschko said that he received it for his social work.
"In addition to the top award of Germany I was decorated with a similar one on Ukraine. We received these decorations thanks to my social efforts. I am a UNESCO ambassador and these are international activities related to the education of needy children. There is no need for me to find any excuses. This is public information. I don't understand why it is being claimed through court," he said.
Previously the leader of UDAR said that he had the right to reside in Germany. "Yes, I have the right to reside in Germany but that does not violate either Ukrainian law or my citizenship," he said in Ukrainian parliament in autumn 2013.
Klitschko has spoken on numerous occasions of his intentions to run for Ukrainian presidency.
