1 min read

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Science and Education has proposed that parliament consider a draft resolution on declaring a moratorium on the closure of state- and municipally-owned educational institutions, adopting it at first reading and as a whole, the press service of one of the authors of the bill, independent lawmaker Serhiy Labaziuk, has reported.

The purpose of the legislative act is the inexpediency of closing state- and municipally-owned educational institutions.

According to the conclusion of the committee, "such actions, despite the possibility of a minor short-term saving of costs, will in the long run cause considerable damage to individuals in receiving a complete secondary education, violate the constitutional right of every citizen of Ukraine to an education, as well as have a negative effect on the functioning and strengthening of the institution of the family in Ukrainian society."

It is proposed to introduce the moratorium until the state budget for 2014 is adopted.
